How to check 02 Sensor and proper plug gap?

Ho can I check my 02 sensor to see if it's good? My gas mileage just plumited and I'm wanting to get it back, but without fixing things that don't need it because money won't allow that right now. What is the proper plug gap for a stock 1zzfe vvt-i engine?

Are you throwing a Check Engine code?

If you're using Iridium plugs, you shouldn't adjust the gap. You need to replace them.

I'm too poor to have a computer to check my engine codes.

As far as plugs, I've got whatever the p.o. had in it. I just switched it over to synthetic oil from the crap they had in it before. I'm already $450 in the hole because I've had to buy oil, etc and so on. I can't afford to replace what I don't need to.

um.... to check the codes all you have to do is just jumper the diagnostics plug (should be in a haynes/chilton manual) and count the blinks of the CEL on the dash

obd II is a lil different than obd I. he'll have to go to his local autozone to get the codes read if it's throwing a check engine light.

if you have any buddies that work as an auto mechanic, aske them if they have a scan tool. they should know....it monitors all the ecu readings while the car is running/off/etc.

if not, then i'd suggest checking your pre-cat O2 sensor....make sure it's connected properly. if you're not getting a check engine light, then it could be related to your driving tendencies, but i'd say the scan tool is the best idea to see everything that your ecu is seeing.

if you have a digital multimeter, you can unplug the sensor while the car is running and check the reading that way as well.

$450 on oil and other crap? musta been a lotta other crap...

5qt's of the best synthetic and the best oil filter only runs ya about $65 bucks...

yeesh for $450 i can do oil, plugs, wires (all top end shit mind you) and still have enough money for a $150-$200 upgrade part.
