How to and how often do you change Air Filter?

    Hello guys and gals,

I was just wondering on how often do you change the Air Filter inside your car (I think its under your glove compartment) and is it hard to change it by your self? I would bring it to the dealer but the thing is they charge you for labor for almost anything and if its just an easy replacement... why not just change it your self.

Any comment, part number for air filter and DIY instructions would be great. :D

You were right about it guys in when to replace the filter or at least clean it. My rolla with a 20k miles under its belt, has so many dirt and leaves on the cabin filter that it almost covered the whole thing and I guess thats what making my airconditioning not giving cool air like it use to (you have to set the fan to a higher level just to cool the cabin too). After I was able to find out where and clean it for the mean time, the aircondition felt like new again.

When I went to a car shop, for some reason they dont have any part number for that. Its kinda wierd but I'll check other car shops and hopefull find a replacement for it.

Does anybody of you know of the part number of this? It will be very helpfull. Thanks again guys. :D

in cabin filter/ air conditioning filter

I've changed mines already a while back. It's really easy, easier than it seems. If you have small hands, just open the glove compartment. You have to pinch the two sides out of it's grooves and it will lay down a bit. From here, just reach in and pull out a horizontal plastic piece with tabs on the sides. The piece is black. Then pull out the filter and replace it. Remember to put back with arrow up, any way is fine. When finished put back in reverse. It's really simple. Don't waste your money and install it at the dealer. The part number is 88568/02020. Don't forget to say in cabin filter. And I got it for $23.06 in Hawaii, before tax.
What I do is every so often, I open it and shake all the leaves, dust, and particles out. This way the filter will last longer. And you'll have clean air for a longer time. And with my old one I wash it out with water and comes clean, almost white clean when it's new, and I will use it again later. Do this as often as you check your air pressure on your tires. Good Luck!

I simply washed my original filter with hot running water and detergent at about 15000 miles. (Intervals depend on conditions)... Let it dry overnight, came out just like new. It's made of a tough water resistant fiber and is good for quite a few washes.

I changed mine once at the dealer ($34 Cdn) then went down to the local HVAC shop and had them make a custom washable filter in a heavy aluminum frame. It cost $16 Cdn. That was 3 years ago---I wash it every 3 months.

I haven't changed mine in forever, I have a huge problem with a lot of dust settling on my dash board.

It's like I'll clean it and then 3 days later there is a ton of dust on it again. I think it is becuase of the way I washed my filter.

I need to try and get a new one, the one i have is the original and I have noticed the degrade of quality in the A/C.

Couldn't I just get a big A/C filter from like Lowe's and cut it down to size?
