Your looking at a practical limit of 180-200 hp. And it's not easy to get there either... F/I is the way to go, IMHO.

    a silvertop 20 valve comes with 160hp & 5 speed tranny
now the black top comes with about 175hp and 6 speed tranny .. to me gettin to 200 with a blacktop wouldnt really be that difficult ..(8-10hp w/ TRD header Header - intake maybe 2-3hp - exhaust again maybe 2-3hp - pulleys -for both power pulley and alternator pulley - 4-5hp so i mean 200 isnt that hard of a goal what is hard is finding a Blacktop 20valve .. in descent condition .. now you can get the silvertops all day long on ebay ..

Yeah the Blacktop is closer to the goal, but the parts for it are more difficult to locate, in particular cams.

Also keep in mind that not ALL blacktop have a 6-speed, only some do. Some also have LSD.

To get there you'll need intake, header, exhaust, head work, cams, flywheel. And that will be at the flywheel, not at the wheels. If you installed high performance valves and springs, and used aftermarket engine management, then you could raise the rev limiter and get some more power.

*edit* BTW I think there are a couple of blacktops on ebay right now.
