To be honest, i don't know how well, the new aftermarket speaker will hold up when it is screwed into the plastic mount. Oxymoron gave me a template of the mounting bracket, so i'm just going to cut it out of some MDF board and mount my speakers in there. that way if i want to sell the car in the future, i can still put back in the stock speakers.

I can Email you a copy of the scan if your interested, or talk with oxy 8)

I imagine if you drilled holes in the plastic bracket (assuming you are going to re-use it) you could use tie-wraps (cable-ties) to hold them in. Think I'd put some kind of foam padding between the speakers and the plastic just to make sure they never rattled.

Here's a picture of an adapter made out of MDF.

    yes that looks neat.
I also made a spacer out of MDF but they are ugly...
Oxymoron did a way better than me. It seems like plastic. Good Job!

I notice that you cut the top cornor. How did you achieve that without breaking the wood while sewing it?

Mine holds up pretty well...PLENTY of midbass beating too. I never needed an MDF ring, it just went right in..snug into place.

BTW I also put baffle between the spacer and the speaker to proection from water. You could get them from Crutchfield.com for $7 a pair.

Cut very carefully with a handsaw.

Yeah, you do have to protect the back of the speaker from water. I've got a plastic shield running accross the top and a 4 mil sheet of plastic draped behind. It's also a good idea to pack the spider with acoustic fibreglass to cut down on mid-range reflections off the door skins.

ConwayJim can you e-mail frozen208@yahoo.com me the template please? And about how much does the MDF cost for what I would need to make both brackets.
