how detrimental will it be for me to lower my car 2.5"

i just bought lowering springs...TIEN S to be exact. they lower the 03 corolla's by 2.5 inches, what i am worried about is my struts. how long can i go on stock struts before they, become a "problem." has anyone out here had any problems with their lowered cars?

there is no set time for the life of your struts after lowering. it depends on your driving style, and the terrain you drive over.

new struts aren't that expensive... i say put em on. you'll love the STechs!

    New struts aren't expensive??? Huh?

The only struts I've ever found or heard of for 03+ Corollas are the Koni yellows and they are around $500 for 4, IIRC. That's a paycheck for me.

But if there are other struts (decent quality, i.e.) out there, then I've not heard of them. Not saying there aren't. Anybody know?? I've heard of Dropzone struts - I've also heard they suck.

I've heard stock struts will crap out sooner the more you lower. TRD lowering springs drop like 1.2" F/R I think - something like that. The struts aren't replaced. Go figure. I've heard of struts dying after 6-12 months, but I'm sure it all depends on lots of other things.

Kiss your stock struts goodbye. I purchased H&R lowering springs about 1 1/2 years ago for my stock struts and everyone told me they were going to cause my struts to die and I was like "eat it". Anyways after having the springs on my car for only 6 months my struts were already leaking oil and now 1 1/2 year later I might as well not even have struts on the car anymore they are so worthless. I'm going to ditch the whole setup for some JIC Magic FLTA2 coil over suspension ($1600) because I dont want to ever go though this problem again. For you I would recommend doing some research on some good struts that can take the abuse and buy them up. Otherwise expect to have your stock struts die after a few months. I mean the car is still totally driveable and if your springs are real stiff you probably won't notice the struts being gone nearly as much. But this is just my personal experience nad yours may vary :)

2.5 inches...that will get rid of only half the stock wheel gap...hehe.

dont be foolish, and put them on stock struts like i did for a while. let me say that again.

dont be foolish, and put them on stock struts, they will eventually blow, and you'll end up replacing them with aftermarket ones anyways, because you'll realize how terrible the ride is with stock struts that cant handle the spring rates of the Teins...itll be fake-me-out hydraulics in no time.

suspension is one of THE major components to a car; dont go cheap on it, and do it right. find some good aftermarket struts. i got tokico's, and havent had a another problem anymore on my '98.

p.s. just incase youre thinking about ignoring my advice; dont put them on stock struts

order yourself some kyb gr2s, cheap and extreamly reliable and heavy duty, I ran my 02rolla for 75k miles on kybs and a coilover setup, and now my brother owns that car and still drives it hard, still lowered on kybs and coils, and no issues. Thats pretty damn reliable for aftermarket components.

having ridden in Rolla02's car with completely blown shocks I'd say dont bother lowering it until you have the money to buy both springs & struts.
