    High flow Cat converter

i really want one-just b/c my whole exhaust system has been done except the cat-which is old and rusty...i dont believe virginia performs a smog test, so im just wondering if its really worth replacing to a new high flow version-as far as performance..

yes...definately if you plan on any kind of F/I. But do not get rid of the resonator or it will sound like shit.

no its an "official" catalytic converter-made by obx-thats the cheapest ive found so far (62 dollars) w/ 2.5 inch width...http://www.speedstash.com/catcon.html (im not ordering from these guys btw) ive been reading on other forums that it may give me a higher pitch sound? does that sound right?

im looking through my mental abbreviation dictionary and i ran out of memory, so what does "F/I" mean? also, the resonator is installed w/ the new cat-back exhaust, and i dont have any plans on takin that out-but you say itll sound like shit-can you describe? like a straight pipe sound-ghetto rumble, also-will check engine light come on b/c of post oxygen sensor detecting too much carbon-nitrogen or whatever's not supposed to come through..

    f/i is forced induction.

The cat and resonator are separate.

If you take the resonator out, it will sound a little raspier.. however F/I smooths it out again.

Your check engine light shouldn't come on beacuse of the high-flow cat.. just unplug your battery for 10 minutes and the ECU should adjust.

thnx guys for the info, but i wouldnt have any plans to do "F/I" any time soon-so it might not be worth it- will i feel any boost w/o F/I?

It is a decent mod that you can do. High-flow cat, intake, and header would mean smoother and more exhaust flow which equals power--but nothing like a S/C (supercharger) or a turbo...

I have a magnaflow cat and I like it, it doesnt give huge power, but I'm 2 1/4 from my down pipe and its much nicer than when I had my DIY axle-back.

if you happen to get the resonated test pipe off of ebay, that will mess up your post convertor O2 sensor...happened to me....i said ...wtf? why not just put this lil piece of crap on there. hahaha....yeah.

i don't have emissions here, but then again, i still have my MD plates....

i can tell you this, tho....i did have the OBX hi-flow 'cat' on my car and went to the emissions station in MD.....passed. all they did was check the gas cap and check the OBDII plug. so yay for years 96 and later. all i have to do is reset my ECU right before i go to the station....good ta go. no check engine light and you're golden.

the light comes on because of the fact that the post convertor sensor was getting covered in carbon and all the shit that the cat usually gets...not to mention it prolly got fairly hot, because the cat is usually pretty hot....(hot in relative terms to the already hot exhaust system.)

that's a negative....there are some out there that do what a cat is sposed to, but i think they make em just a lil thinner so that the flow is higher.

I called AUTOBACS here in So. Cal. & this is what they recommend. Does it give even a little hp maybe 3 or 5hp?

This application list is updated as soon as new applications become available. If you do not find a Super High Flow converter for your vehicle listed here, please contact us for the latest application information. Installation kits, which include stainless steel nuts and bolts and gaskets, or clamps (depending on requirements) are optionally available for all converters. Although not an absolute necessity, these kits make installation much easier.

Under Federal EPA regulation, replacement of original catalytic converters is allowed only if the original converter(s) is missing, or the vehicle has more than 50,000 miles or is at least five years old and the need for a replacement has been established and documented, or a local inspection program has determined the existing converter is in need of replacement.

So, in California it's illegal to replace a cat. unless they deem it in need of replacement through inspection? What if I just punch a big hole in it? You think they'll let me replace it? (I really am considering this, and I know of the the terrible, horrible, stuff that I shouldn't breath in, in there.)
