A block guard is a piece of metal that goes in between the head and engine. It has holes for the cylinders and holds them tight to keep them from floating (moving around)

Some people have tried block guards on the celicas and the mrs 1zz cars and while they help you would be better served with getting sleeves. A block guard or sleevs wont be needed for low boost. In fact the sleeves dont need to be exchanged until well over 20 psi... people like to replace them just in case though!

    You learn something new everyday.
But what you described kinda sound like a head gasket? Can you go into more detail?

I dont know much about the 1ZZ but isnt it a aluminum block with cast iron sleeves from the factory? I might have been passed bad information.

well 20 may be a little high but supposedly our sleeves can take one hell of a beating because they are thick on the 1ZZ... people replace them so they can bore out the engine.... but we have tough sleeves.. I think the MRS with the 1zz power record was on stock sleeves... but different rods and pistons.

Nope I read correct the MWR shop car the 1zz mrs

We've been working on our MR2-S for a while now. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so many parts of the project were done 2-3 times. Basically, the car now has:

    - MWR Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons
    - MWR Crower rods
    - MWR ARP studs
    - MWR valves and springs
    - MWR custom intercooled turbo system
    - Apexi Power FC (tuned by yours truly) <-- Matt @ Monkeywrench
    - Power Enterprise 550cc injectors
    - MWR custom fuel pressure regulator
    - MWR 255lph fuel pump
    - Quaife differential
    - LOTS of gauges

he ran 20 psi and made now 330 or so whp
    this is without the sleeves!!
Now it makes 384.4whp and I think he still doesnt have sleeves on the sucker!
