HID..is it legal?

I'm planning to install a pair of HIDs on my 01 corolla...but I'm wondering is it even legal to have them in California? I read the CHP, and it stated anything that's not stock is illegal .. but I see lots of people here with HIDs... I don't want to get a ticket after spending all these moneys on it.^^

i don't think its legal unless it came stock... police here in vancouver don't really care unless they are too blue or too purple or too bright and not aim properly

I live in LA. Here HID are illlegal. however you may be able to slide if you have hid's the temperatures between 4000 and 5300k . Those colors are closest to factory hid's and do not blind everyone on the road. Also, cops usually don't hassle people with hid's since theres so many people with them now. But if you get pulled over for speeding, they'll put on everything else that's wrong with your car.
