Engine help with installing a torque converter

    help with installing a torque converter

    Just out of curiousity if installing a torque converter with a new/used 4 speed automatic transmission.......... Does the torque converter have to have a certain amount of atf fluid in it before installing it into the transaxle before putting the transaxle into the car and how full?

    no one knows how then?

    That's what we did. Fill it to the top, then install it.

    hey vamp did you have any problems with the check engine light after installing the torque converter. I had herd that it might come on because the computer thinks the trans is slipping with the higher stall speed.

    Just make sure everything is lined up and that the torque converter is completely seated in the transmission housing (should make two clicks), or you may end up shattering the oil pump gear.

    do you have to fill the converter up all the way to the top? Can't you just fill it up at least 3/4 full because I thought it gets filled up anyway when you shift into gear. Reason why I'm asking is if you were to fill the converter up all the way then tilt it to put it into the tranny, the fluid would spill out of the tranny.

    i mean out of the converter

    Just fill it till you get all the air out.
