    help with DVD burner

i just wanted to ask anyone who's an expert with dvd burning/ripping about this problem that i encountered when i tried to burn a dvd.
i bought a new LG 4163B yesterday, installed and all. it burns cd just fine but when it comes to dvd... it wont do it.
i used nero, dvd-shrink... each time i load the new dvd-r, it would say something like "the disc is not writeable" or some stupid shit like that. i tried 4x and 8x dvd-r with same results.

took the LG back to the store, they tested it - it's ok at the store. brought it back home and tried again, same shit! pisses me off.
only diff between my way and what the store did was i ripped the dvd and then try to burn it. the store just added files and burn it.

any ideas as to what is wrong? this is my 1st time have probs with LG> :(

i'm not a expert or anything but some program takes dvd+r disc,so i suggest try buying dvd+r and see if it works.the best program i found and purchased it online is the apollo dvd burner,it takes two blank dvd disc,dvd-r and dvd+r,also apollo burns video games and thats cool.

finally figured why it wouldnt burn dvd. the 4163B for some reason... can be picky with software. i uninstalled all my programs for burning/ripping dvd's and then install the drive. then reinstalled the programs and it works fine and it's an excellent dvd burner.

anyone here use optodisc or taiyo yuden discs?? i keep hearing the brand taiyo yuden as one fo the best out there? is this true? they're pretty pricey so i assume they are good. haven't tried them yet.
