You can swap the 3-speed in and it will work, but the ecu will throw a check engine light. Also the plug on the tranny for the wiring may be different.

My question is i have another corolla at the crib with a 3 speed auto tranny in it that should bolt up but will my ecu work with it correctly and if so how hard is it to drop the tranny???

the easiest way to do the tranny swap is pluck the engine outta the bay . if you dont have the facilitys to do this , youre askin for headache and trouble. are the engines the same between youre 2 rolla's. should be pretty direct , but look under and around youre car and do a double check for yourself . sure its not the TC? if not , why dont you just save yourself the trouble in the future , and drop in the 5-speed ? where you doin any rash driving when you discovered the problem , have you checked youre tranny fluid?

if you do a bit of competative driving , i would go for the 5-speed replacement.:)

My friend said working on the transmission on 1ZZ sux. It took him like 11hrs to take it out and put it back.
He's a mechanic and he just changed the clutch and flywheel for a his friend's 1ZZ celica . He said he will never do it again. It's just so troublesome. :D
