so they say its a computer problem. it makes sense. but your o2 sensor might be reading the exhaust wrong and sending the wrong info back to the computer. my car did that, but i also had a tweaked rod, but the computer was giving off the o2 sensor code, after ireplaced the o2 sensor and the engine..haha.. the problem was fixed.

not saying you needa new engine, but that o2 sensor could be the problem.

    Help - acceleration problems

Hey - please help me if U can. My 01 Corolla has been making noises especially when accelerating uphill, the acceleration is also affected. It has only done 18K for god's sake. Top quality fuel helps a bit, but dealer says it is due to the computer unit sending the wrong message about the mixture, and guess what? This particular model doesn't have an adjuster on it. The new computer units which cost a packet, do have this adjuster. He says that when they service cars just before the warranty is running out, if there is any hint of this problem, they replace this computer unit quickly, before the warranty expires. The thing was only 6 weeks out of warranty when I took it into the dealer with this problem. Has anyone else experienced this? I reckon it is Toyota trying to get out of replacing a bad batch of units. I know next to nothing about cars, does anyone out there know enough to advise me?

im not sure as to what systems the 01 is running... but you may be able to get by with an aftermarket air/fuel computer.... such as e-manage or jet v chips

Thanks a lot for all your suggestions and advice guys. I'm taking it into the dealer Monday, to see what they have decided about it. You are totally RIGHT, they should goodwill it. I can't believe they would design this part without an adjuster. Is that not a basic thing in a car engine? As a kid I can remember my dad adjusting the mix of air & fuel on his car and it took about 1 minute to do, and cost nothing.

Yeah thats a load of shit about an "adjuster" you probably have a bad o2 sensor. Clean your MAF sensor also. That ECU depends on good signals. If one sensor isnt working right it messes up the entire fuel map. And hence, your performance goes down the shitter.
