The white cap is a screw protector... Lowe's somehow don't have the black one... Oh, well it doesn't look that bad... :D

I always thought that the skinny part was made out of steel, but it's actually fiberglass. Actually the better, it was easy to cut, all I did was use a plier...

It look pretty good on my car too, I'll take some pic once I get a new digicam...

No radio reception loss by the way...

Anyway, it's definately one of those less-than-ten-dollar mods. Good Job.

i might be misunderstanding the "cutting of the antenna" idea. did you actually cut the top part of the antenna off??? or did you unscrew the top part off from the base??? i was under the impression that the top part of the antenna just unscrews to come off.

    can someone please clarify. thanks

I cut it right where the stubby detachable rubber base ends...

So the thingy that you guys are looking at is going back to the car. So, no I didn't take off the base that is attached to the roof of the car...

The wrap around wire actually stop short of the rubber base, so it's actually doing nothing... Well, maybe not nothing, but it's not connected to anything. I guess it's there to boost reception, like a coil.

Like I said, the "white" tip is a rubber screw protector. Somehow there, no color black for that particular size, so I ended up getting a white one. I need to look for a black one, although, no hurry since the white doesn't look that bad... 8)

As far as receptions goes, it's pretty good. I didn't really notice any loss.

Have you noticed any change in wind noise? I think that's what the coil might help with... and I wasn't sure if the white plastic piece might cause a whistle too.

I honestly haven't experience anything different from the stock to the amputated antenna...

By saying that, I guess it suffice to say that beside it being shorter and loooookin' good, everything remains the same... 8)

I'll post pic of it on the car soon...

I cut my antenna a long time ago, but never thought to use a screw protector on the end. I just colored the junk inside the antenna with a black marker and put a dab of hot glue to seal it. Mabey I will need to look into the screw cover thing though. I also noticed NO loss of radio reception when I cut it.
