Head unit recommendations for clean cosmetic look?

New forum member here. I purchased an '04 Corolla S Automatic in January. Gray inside and out. I want to replace the head unit with an aftermarket CD/MP3 player. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations as to which head units would blend in nicely with the Corolla's dash. I really don't have any requirements for the head unit except that it plays MP3s. I would prefer something in a gray that would closely match the rest of the dash, if anything like that is available. Also, what do you folks recommend as far as a mounting kit is concerned? What recreates the smooth curved look of the factory radio the best? I have not made any modifications to the car as of yet, and most likely will only be replacing the radio, and possibly the speakers. Thanks in advance for any help.

Go with well known brands because you can get stuck with a head unit that sounds terrible or breaks after a few months. Id recommend a 1 din head unit because thats what most aftermarket head units are and those have the most features. You can get a scosche dash kit and wiring harness from www.sounddomain.com and i think if you buy from them u get the dash kit and wiring free. Also as for looking close to stock i think aftermarket head units look great and the stock head unit in my opinion is plain, dull, ugly, and lacking many nice features. I'd recommend the pioneer 7600. Goes for around 250 at circuitcity or best buy but you can get it for 200 online. You can probably install it yourself considering i did my own and this is my first car.

Thank you for your reply and input! I agree that the stock head unit is plain, dull, and lacking features, but I don't necessarily think it's ugly. I kind of like the minimalist look to it. But now, the more time I've spent doing research on this forum and many other sources, the more ideas I'm getting. I'm even considering an in dash dvd player, because it would be nifty. But I don't think I would use it enough to justify the cost. Of course, the educational value of learning to install it would justify the cost, I think... We'll see.

who wouldnt want an in dash dvd player lol. but its all about the benjamins. those go for like around 600-1000$ and a very good single din cd/mp3 player head unit u can get the best ones for under 400.
