H&R spring anyone?

well, I am going to go for tokico+tein.s setup...however, after seeing my friend's celica lowers with TRD springs (~1" drop), I start reconsidering about Tein S. which is 1.9 at the front.....scared of sitting too low and the ease of scratching when hit a bump....

so, anyone using H&R? is it any good? I want a stiffer spring and as I heard...Tein H. is much softer compared to Tein S.

    thanks

Heard nothing but good things about them, but then again I don't have any first hand experience with them either.

You could also try the Tein H-Tech, they lower about 1.3"...

depends on wat your looking for. even tein admits the H/S tech are not a sport spring but a "dress up" spring.

I have them. the drop isn't very aggressive, but the spring rate is.

I've got H&R's and I love them. It isn't as big a drop as Teins but that's a good thing when you drive the LA streets :D They also give a great close to stock ride. I'd definitely recommend them :D

    thanks for the reply, ppl

the only concern I have is that if I go with Tein. S, will I be having troubles driving around----->sitting too low and scratches easily? (98' rolla with stock bumper & S sideskirt)

if so, then my alternative will be either Tein. H or H&R which lowers the car approximately both 1" front/back instead of 1.9" at the front and 1.5" at the back....if this is the case, how much difference will there be between Tein. H and H&R??

hmm...2" drop at the front and 1.5" at the back, huh? that sounds similar to the drop with Tein. S
besides tires bottomng out and rubbing...how's the height of the ride with the spring? would you say it's really easy to get scratch when go over speed bump/curb?

thanks, deadnick!!

I've got H&R Blue Racing Springs (30% over stock) that provide a 2 inch drop in the front and 1.5 inch drop in the back (I think???). They work really good but I'm having problems with my tires bottoming out and rubbing so I'm thinking about going with a coil over kit that I can adjust the bump stop on.

the H&R's have a higher spring rate than the Tein H tech's, i'm pretty sure.

hey deadnick:: your problem is with your wheels themselves. the offset you chose is too small... for aftermarket wheels in 16" you should go for at least +45mm. the TRD 16" for 98-02 has a +47mm offset. I still rub a tiny bit in the rear with my +45mm 16"s, but that's because i have not rolled my fenders. good luck..

Nah I rolled my fenders and the tires clear on both sides. I think its rubbing on the inside like on the strut perch or something. I need to look into it.

I actually do bottom out in the back sometimes but it takes a fairly decent bump and weight in the back. Plus my rear struts are shot so they are not really helping the situation :)

how's the eibach pro-kit vs. the H&R's . Which would be a smoother ride and which would handle better?

with the s-tech by tein....if i'm going to use my stock shocks/struts....what happens if i leave the bump stop alone? i'm hearing that it's better if you cut the bumpstop in half? what would this do?

is this just for cars getting dropped more thank 1.5"s
how would the ride feel with stocks......?(kinda low on funds right now to get everything at once.)

I had the same problem. Thought TRD wasnt low enough, but didnt want something like the S-Techs because they were too low. I ended up going with B&G springs, which were perfect at a 1.6" drop.

are you doing the install yourself? If so then I guess its OK, if you want to go through the trouble to do the install twice. If you're paying someone then just save up and do both at the same time.

i ended up buying a set of the h&r sport spings, but now shocks or struts yet. the estimated drop is 1.3 in front and 1.25 in the rear.

maybe someone can give me a straight answer.....what would happen if i just installed the springs and kept the stock dampers on? i know the rear is ready to be replaced, but low on paper to replace them right now..... would the ride be way toooo bouncy, or should i be fine for about a month til i can get a new set of shocks/stuts?

    any advise would be great!!!

I have the TRD wheels w/ the +47 offset and I also have the H&R springs matched up to the KYB's shocks, What most people forget to change is the top mounts and the spring rubbers as well. I have no problems what so ever with rubbing even with three people in the back and a trunk full of groceries. I am also running on 195/50/16 DUNLOP 5000m tires, best tires I ever bought.

But, I also have a REAR brake conversion on my AE102 with the H&R camber correction bolts. The rotors have to be for a AE111 LEVIN. Looks kinda rusty, I need to buy some HTE caliper paint and make them look nice.
