    Seen it on other forum already. That's why people been saying if you buy a VW, you need to buy a fire extinguisher. Somebody said it's something about the turbo, I dunno.

    Its not the turbo...I have never heard of a VW catching fire because of the turbo.
    Ive heard of vws catching fire because of the coil pack problem though.

    This one was due to a bad wiring job.

    heh, faulty wiring... *sigh* the second you smell smoke you should cut all power... i've got an emergency cut-off inside my car within reach for just such occasions. I haven't had to use it on my rolla yet, but I had to use it once in my old Camaro. Sucked, but nothing got damaged... between the cutoff and the extinguisher, i had almost zero damage. :)
