recalls have gone up quite a lot I'm not going to lie but GM can't say anything because they don't have close reliability on economic cars like Toyota has or had GM beats the hell out of us in trucks though that's for sure

I'm not a bi fan of the perceived quality of the 98-02 Corolla, compared to the 93-97's, but the 03+ seems to have rectified that... other than that... a few recalls doesn't mean their quality as a whole is going down, nothing is perfect (as GM clearly demonstrates... yes its a cheap shot :))... so if recalls indicate quality... GM is forever lost (so is Ford it would seem...)

    cheap shot.

while toyotas probably arent the indestructible tanks they were in the 90's

theyre still way up there in reliability

well just because a recall occurs doesnt mean quality is bad.. gm has recalls all the time but for minor things like turn signal wires etc etc.. it happins to all major car companies its a fact of life.

can I put my two cents in being theres no gm car out there or even any american car that can get 30ciy/40highway mpg in a car (i.e. corolla or new 06 honda civic with 140 hp)... thats pretty damn good I think.
heck.... i noticed that the new hhr with 145 hp and 155 tq has 22 city and 30 highway but the camry has better mileage with more power... whats up with that?

haha thats funny you point that out teal... its so true.

here's something i don't understand... i'm putting down about 230 or so when I run about 10psi and I *STILL* get good gas mileage. (keep in mind i have a 4.5 psi handicap due to altitude which is why my numbers are lower than you'd expect)(last 4 tanks have avg'd the following: 28 mixed city/hwy and 30 highway) that's on a turbo charged car. Makes me wonder what the excuse is for all these other cars...

^^^ thats only one factory. the nummi where they built the corolla, matrix/vibe and tacomas. the majority of toyota is built at the toyota plant in kentucy and canada and soon to be san antonio. and now ive notice that gm is using toyota's exterior parts. (the door handle)

General Motors can KISS MY ASS!!!!!!! Literally. Toyota's quality may have gone down somewhat but never has it been as bad as GM. Now they want to get into a partnership please just so they can take the credit if Toyota's quality will go up and keep every credential to themselves is just BS!. GM is good only for trucks and even then they have thier share of hardware problems. If Toyota decided to add more engineering to thier cars and trucks especially the trucks they would definately outtake GM in almost every direction.

yeah and hey back up thier workmanship to the fullest unlike other car companies who will find literally anything to charge you.

I just thought I would say something else. I was comparing say the 2003 corolla to the 2003 malibu (even though there is a somewhat big difference between the corolla and the malibu with power). I noticed that there is about at least 40 more recalls with the malibu than there was with the corolla. Although I guess that doesnt really mean anything. In my opinion, even though I do like all imports, toyota and .... yes honda to some extent...... will always be the best cars imo.

The Malibu has more power, but its also heavier, I could keep up to a 2001 Malibu (same engine as the 03) with my 94 Corolla with 105hp and 3 Speed automatic, and the 2003 Corolla's are faster...

Working for GM I will tell you guys that Toyota has no need to worry about their reliability compared to GMs. If only you all could see how many recall and campaign releases I get a month in regaurds to Saab (a brand with ONLY 4 models!). The materials and construction of late and newer model GMs is highly questionable as is the engineering. Only reasoning for any reduced reliability I think of is that some of the models affected are produced here where the work ethics at the plants isn't up to pace with the over-seas plants. I really hate to say it but if I had the choice to buy my car from Japan for more or from the US for less. I wouldn't flinch on getting the Japanese one.

i agree with toyota's quality going down. I mean really... what's up with their scion project? its so lame. And their focus on economy... I mean a eco car is nice, but its like their workmanship went down with that. i agree taht all the pre-vvti cars are rock solid and have fewer problems than the post-vvti cars even though mine doesnt have any problems. i'll give it til i get 200k miles then my car will go down the shit hole.

scion was designed to get a younger generations of buyers but as it turns out it has been cost effective for them so they leave it the way it is. they are not really worried if they do or don't sell since they can cancel or change at anytime.

only if you knew just how much toyota is losing on each car and the overall cost, even though they have thier share of problems and craftsmanship.
