Getting my 1ZZFE back on the road

Hey guys! I have not been on this forum for a while since I've been driving my 2005 Subaru WRX STi and been busy raising a kid :D But I had some free time a few days ago so I took the 2001 Corolla out of moth balls and drove it around and remembered how much fun it was to drive. I decided that I am going to sell the car to my brother in law for next to nothing because he wants a project and wants a car that is not supposed to be turbo charged with a turbo on it (a sleeper). Below is a pic of my cars to jog everyones memory of who I am :)

Before I sell the car to him I wanted to fix up some of the problems it has. I pretty much parked it after having a new motor tossed in it 2 years ago. The problem I'm having now is the boost limit on the turbos internal waste gate is set to 7.5psi. I want to drop it down to 4psi to make the car more safe and reliable to drive. Does anyone know where I can get a 4psi internal wastegate spring or how to modify the waste gate to get down to 4psi easily? Also the car has a Greddy eManage Blue system installed on it but it needs to be remapped. The problem was I could never get the eManage to play ball in the car since the stock ECU would always override my settings and go back to 18 - 19afr. I purchased a Split Second ESC1 but never installed it. If anyone out there in Corolla land has successfully turbo charged there Corolla with eManage and ESC1 I would love some tips and tricks on how to get it all working to play ball right. The car has stock injectors because the shop that swapped the motor pocked my 550cc's and I didn't find out until 2 years later but it does have a 250lph walbro fuel pump. The car would be pretty peppy tuned right on 4 - 5psi of boost but I need to keep the AFR down. I also have a recirculating BOV value off a SABB 9000 that I redirect right back to the turbine however I get this wierd "WootWootWootWoot" noise whenever I come off boost like there is some kind of surge back and forth in the pressure releif tube, anyone else experience this? I might even go back to open atmo BOV on 4psi since at that boost pressure I should not backfire too bad. I would appriciate the tips and tricks and any pointers on people that have done successful tuned turbo setups on 1ZZ-FE's so I can point my brother in law in the right direction to get this thing back on the road and fast. Right now it feels gutless, even under boost it feels like it has next to no power because its runing lean. If I can fix that the car should go great since the engine is brand new and purrs like a kitten and does not burn any oil.

Here is my old thread when I was selling the car with some pics and specs, etc.

Its nice to see it going back on the road! Hopefully your brother will take good care of it :D. Unfortunately I'm still learning about all that stuff so I cant help you out. Just wanted to compliment the fact that it gets to see sunlight again :)

Thank you, I really do love this car and honestly did not want to sell it but I have too many toys and it has been under cover for far too long and its not worth owning something unless you use it. Because someone else will use it and care for it like it deserves. Plus if I sell it cheap to my brother in law I can still wrench on it with him and drive it on occasion which is well worth the loss :D

Thank you, it is in pretty good shape and has a motor with less then 30k miles on it. Lots of people think its a very unique car since instead of a car stereo it has a 7" touch screen running Windows XP tied in to the OBD2 to give a digital dashboard while you drive. It also has GPS, FM Tuner, etc and you can tune the Greddy right from the touch screen. USB ports were molded in to the dash board and center console too so you can easily transfer data in and out and its also equiped with wireless so you can get internet justabout anywhere. I just did all kinds of crazy stuff with that car :D Now I just need to finish getting the turbo detuned so the car can be reliable and more peppy then stock since that will better suite my brother. My quest for max power out the 1ZZFE proved to me that there are serious limitations to the engines ability to produce massive horse power, but in hindsight the car was always fun to drive with the power it had so even just a little pep from a couple pounds of boost was all it ever needed.

a friend o mine soldered and mounted a swaybar into my car from a S rolla (mine didn't have the lower arm mounts for some reason, stupid first VE batch of 98.

and it feels sooooooo much better taking curves...

I mean like... even better than when I replaced the old fucked shocks 2 years ago.

so.. bottom line in my post is, rollas are nimble and pretty weak. but they are fun and light to drive.

well it didn't have the mount in the lower plates, so he made ones, he didn't make it PERMANENT soldered if that's what you're thinking xD or MADE the bar xD

Just letting everyone know we got the ESC-1 installed and tuned the AFR down to 11-12 under boost though all 7 psi without issues. Check engine light still comes on every now and again for O2 reading oddness but does not seem to effect how the car drives. I signed the car over to my brother in law and he is thrilled to have such a unique ride and project. I was sad to see her go, but atleast its still in the family.
