    General consensus on header wrap...

Header wrap is a bad ideal...would that fairly represent the general opinion on this stuff?

Especially on a stock manifold, right? I've read horror stories of the wrap causing the cast iron to disintegrate over time (weeks - months).

Actually, between the ELP and DC Sport header, which is the best and where's the best place to buy it from?

"Q: Can I use exhaust wrap on my stock exhaust manifold?

A: Yes. When wrapping the stock exhaust manifold make sure to use the same care in maintaining a 1/4" overlap to avoid overwrapping the manifold.

Q: Will exhaust Wrap ruin my headers?

A: Some makers of cheap hedders would like you believe this because it provides an excellent excuse when their hedders rust and fall apart. The fact is that when properly installed exhaust wrap will not effect the life of the header. The myth was that wrap holds in too much heat and this is true if the 1/4" overlap is not adhered to.

Q: What is exhaust wrap made of and does it contain asbestos?

A: Our exhaust wrap is mainly composed of composite fiberglass material, No asbestos!

Q: Will wrapping my exhaust pipes make it rust?

A: If the exhaust pipe is made of mild steel, the exhaust will rust over time with or without exhaust wrap. If you are going to wrap a mild steel exhaust we recommend using our HT Silicone paint to seal and protect the wrap and the header before wrapping

Q: Can I wet the wrap for installation?

A: It is fine to wet the material during installation. Wetting the product will ease the installation process. Make sure to let the wrap dry before applying DEI’s HT Silicone Coating.

Q: How does the exhaust wrap stay in place?

A: We make our Stainless Steel locking ties just for holding the wrap in place.

Q: Will the exhaust wrap work on my stock exhaust?

A: Yes, it is perfectly compatible with al exhaust systems from Cast Iron to Stainless Steel.

    Q: Why only a ¼” overlap, isn’t more better?

A: More is not always better when it comes to exhaust wrap. You can hold to much heat in the manifold the point of changing the molecular structure of the metal. This can cause premature wear of the tubes or fractured welds, ¼” is fine…this allows just enough heat out to ensure performance without hurting the exhaust. "
