    GE head swap on 7A-FE

alright...found a good deal on several 4AGE's so i'm thinking of doing the 7A-GE next summer. i have a few question first though.

    a) here's the 4AGE's this place has for sale. what's the difference (if any) between each?

87-89 Corolla Coupe, GTS, DOHC, FWD 4AGE 1.6

    84-89 MR2, RWD, DOHC 4AGE 1.6

89-92 Corolla, GTS, FX16, FWD, DOHC, Knock sensor in block 4AGE 1.6

90-92 Geo Prizm Gsi, Geo Storm Gsi, Corolla GTS, Prizm Gsi, 4AG, FWD, Knock Sensor in Block 4AGE(Late) 1.6

    2) i'm assuming i'm gonna need a new ECU because of the new head, but what else will i need.

    thought i had another Q, but i forgot...if i remember i'll post it later

If the 4AGE is in good shape, i'd take that before trying to do a 7AFE - GE head swap... the 4AGE is a real good engine, reliable, and certain models make 130hp, and you'll the 7AGE swap is not something i'd recommend doing in yuor backyard, you'd have tob ring it all to a machine shop to match them up properly... the 4AGE hsould bolt right in, you'll need the ECU though...

the shop thing shouldn't be an issue. my autos teacher from HS is a really good dude and he'd probably help me out with that. i'm just trying to figure out what the difference between each one of those 4 engines is

IMO, don't get a 20V unless it's a blacktop..... generally silvertops are only putting out about 120whp in the states (as stated by most people who have done the swap)... which is not all that much higher than an easy-to-find parts 16V smallport

    85-86 bigport was 112hp
87-89 bigport was 115hp, and 7 rib block

and that's my next question...is the small or bigport better as far as power #'s go?

If memory serves me right, the smallport is the one maknig 130hp, which is the highest in the 4AGE DOHC 16Valve engines, so I would go with the smallport...
