    Gas Ratings

so I was at the gas station today, and was thinking what the real diffrence was between the there grades, and BOOM is see a big sticker on the side that said Racing fule with a 100 rating!

Anyone know what would happen if I put that stuff in my car? would I feel any diffrence? would it cause problems?

I do know that every time I go to arco and fill up with the cheap stuff, and then I go to 76 and fill up with their best stuff, I can feel a BIG diffrence.

who knows... maybe if I mod my car enough I could really feel the diffrence with that fule.. but I wouldn't due it too much, the price tag was REALY steep. $5.50/gal :(

higher octane by itself dosnt do much of anything to help preformance in the 1zz. maby the "better"fuel feels diffrent to you as it might be cleaner, but not because of the octane. now the 1zz is a pretty high compression engine in the grand scope of things, but any more than 89 and your pretty much waisting your money.

the higher octane rating indicates its resistence to pre ignition. this becomes increasingly important with higher compression, or forced induction.

oh and before i bought 100 octane at 5.50/gal id drive to the local small airport. they will sell you some 115 for that price or a touch less, and it will be "fresher" than the stuff thats been sitting at the local gas stations "race fuel" tank.

the fuel you would get at the airport is leaded and made for turbine engines.........I wouldn't put that in a car.

Aviation's 100 LL( low lead) gas contains about 1 gram of tetra-ethyl lead per gallon which is harmful to catalityc converters. Av gas is also not as dense as automotive gas.
Octane boosters should also be avoided...http://www.gglotus.org/ggtech/gasoctane/gasoctane.htm

Exactly, the 1zz is made to run at a lower octane.

If you really want octane booster go to a hardware store and buy some toulene, its better and cheaper. Should be by the paint thinner section.
