I'm not saying its ricy. Its just unnecessary. I don't see anything wrong with the normal hood prop. I wouldn't go out of the way to spend extra money for something thats not important.

I voted ricy but its actually neither. I consider it unnecessary. You don't open your hood that often so what's the need to install hydraulic dampers? The stock hood prop works just fine. hehe

prop rod in the hole!! i don't think that those mini shocks are even durable. rollatuner is right, we don't open our hoods that often. besides, i think those mini shocks are really for cars with heavy hoods. you'll see them on hatch backs or vertical station wagon doors. i remember when my parents had a subaru wagon GL, the hydros were wearing out and you were always getting hit on the head. true! the back door of the station wagon was heavy, and it needed hydros, but this was back in the day when subaru didn't know better and i personally beleive their cars were crap! but even so, civic hatches have the hydros in the rear window/door.

another example, my freind had a 1992 acura legend v6. the hood had the hydro dampers. but the hood was heavy as heck!!

unless your car is for show, i'd go ahead with the hydro dampers. but it's not going to do you any good to have it. it's probably going to be a pain to line up. it's just cheaper to get the prop rod incase yours breaks. don't waste money on that.

i'd say its usefull and even can be made to look nice if painted, but it weighs more than your hood prop and can't be guaranteed to be durable.

It is useful when your working on your car because the hood prop can get in the way in some spots. You would then have to walk on the other side to get around the hood prop. Its a hassle yes but is it worth that price? HELL NO!

you have apparently never worked on a car with hood dampers - it's a luxury some of us are willing to install on our cars. does it make us lazy? hardly - it makes you a bit of a twit for assuming so. ;)

I have a set on my rolla. It makes it more convenient, but it can see your point it being lazy. For example, if you had a carbon fiber hood.

i'd do it, like laura said it's a luxury not everyone has. not sure how many times i've been working in the engine bay and bringing up against the hood prop, it's dangerous, now i havent hurt my self yet(knock on wood) but imagine nocking the prop out of home and being under that heavy ass hood or even worse just your fingers. so i think it's a very useful mod.
