    Subject: 98 corolla misfire?
My 98 corolla (5sp, 4cyl, 174k km) which I bought used last week misfires or sputters if I try to accelerate. Had oil change 2 days ago, this problem started yesterday. I was driving at 100 km/h and tried to accelerate, the check engine light began to flash. Once I stopped, the light went out after 1 minute. If I don't accelerate quickly, the car is fine. This seems to occur mainly at low rpms.

xplicit, read the second half of his post. dude doesn't speak English but needs help. the car is a 98 and misfires.

Giacomo, have you taken it to get the check engine light read? there should be a code stored in the computer that will tell you more about your problem. I have been having a similar issue with my Subaru Impreza, so I know this is a frustrating problem. things to try: clean your MAF sensor, change your spark plugs, check your oxygen sensors to make sure they're reading properly.

ok, did you have someone read the code when it flashed? if it's a FLASHING check engine light that means that you could have a misfire bad enough to damage your catalytic converter. it could also mean your oxygen sensor is bad, causing unburned fuel to go through the exhaust.
