I wonder how efficient that would be compared to a normal cone style filter... Hopefully someone from VVTi will buy it so we can find out.

yea that's ghey, if you think about it, air doesn't go into an intercooler, it goes through the intercooler, therefore, this has holes in it......stho ghey

well-this is very rare-since there are no "real" CAI for 93-97, ive seen a few of these up for bids a few months ago-the only problem with this-it has too many twists and turns to be effective-you pretty much lose lots of horsepower...but it would be interesting to see how it actually fits-w/o taking out the coolant resevoir...-its smack in the middle of the intake path..

OK, here's a pic of my intake and i drew the one that this guy is selling-

As you can see-the coolant resevoir is in the way-but ive seen one guy tthat actually mounted his elsewhere...dont know where though! but if it goes through-itll then turn downwards and sit right under the radiator pulling in air from the outside-ala=intercooler style... kudos to toyota for making the engine compartment SOOOO clutered!!! ass wipes! my friend has a hyundai accent-and you could practically fit inside his engine! soo much more room to work with!

the purpose of this intake is so that the air will be forced into it ram-air style....please don't flame something you don't know anything about.

it sits in front of the radiator and works fairly efficiently if you ask me....i'm glad you asked. :p the metal piece with holes is just a cover that you can put on the filter so it doesn't get quite as dirty or for dress up purposes...the back of it is solid so that whatever air goes into the filter goes thru the tubing to the intake manifold...only thing i don't think would be that great is that it WILL get very dirty on long drives....all the bugs and dirt and everything.

it is not....the pipe goes downward....there will be some modification needed-something the regular DIY-er will have no problem with, but the pipe will go under the coolant reservoir.

dude its a want-a-be intercooler look in any car mag you will see that it goes in front of the radiator and is meant to look like an intercooler but is just a air filter

HOW DOES IT GO UNDER? there's no freakin ROOM!!!! requires LOTS of modification!

dont believe me? well here ya go! got it from this guy's cardomain site...its a very similar custom intake...

as you can see-too many twists and turns equals big power loss...you might as well just stick a cone filter on the throttle body while your at it...

i disagree with you who think this will not work....that is all i have to say....seeing as no amount of 'convincing' on a forum message board will be able to change your minds.

and what are you talking about with too many twists and turns being a big power loss? it doesn't go straight downward, but it could be routed underneath of the coolant reservoir.....pardon your lack of imagination.

what are you talking about, 'sideways?'....the air goes into the filter, and then goes into the tubing....which is on the right side of the filter (looking at it from the front of the car)...it doesn't go all the way through the filter box....it only goes thru the filter.

    think again.

ITS RAM-AIR. But its a sorry ram air system. It will work better than stock, but not much...

the less time it takes the air to get to the throttle body-the more power you will receive-its common knowledge dude...thats why in some aspects-having a straight tube from the throttle body allows for that linear-fast flowing discharge of air, whereas in this case-the engine most likely has to work harder to pull in that air-and the ram idea really sucks-the car isnt gonna suck up more than it needs no matter how fast air is movin up the tube

is it possible the air is cooler? therefore denser? woah! therefore it doesn't have to be faster :D

true, air moves slower when its colder-it all depends on how hard your pushin the pedal though...

ok... for all of you "technical" people *rolls eyes*..... if anything, the diameter of the piping will reduce the HP because the velocity of the air moving will slow down at the reducer to the small ass TB the 4/7a-fe uses..... also, running the pipe directly next to the block and within a few inches (6-8) of the exhaust manifold is anything but cold....

best setup is to move the battery to the trunk and use 2.5" mandrel bends sent into the fender..... moving the battery will help with front/rear weight ratio anyways...

"intercooler style filter" is a long way from being an intercooler. This is the intake equivalent of those chintzy wheel covers with the simulated brake disc.

the only reason they say that it's an 'intercooler' style is because of where the filter sits....right in front of the radiator...not because it acts like an intercooler and supercools your air or somethin.

Would you rather have a POS RAI or this? Frankly, I don't if some people think it's a fake intercooler... If it serves it's purpose, then there's one more CAI idea out there for the 93-97's.
