For all you rolla owners with manual windows... a question

I was just wondering if the handle where you either open or close the window can be removed and be re fitted into that Down position..rather than pointing upwards when fully closed? The darn thing is around my knee area where I like to rest my leg on.

I was wondering if it would be possible to remove and just make it face the downwards position? thanks.

aww thanks for the reply though.. I thought that I could simply pull the handle off and just put it back but facing downwards...then again I don't want to take a chance and break it now. hehe..

well i dont know about 'just taking it off'... i think you might have to take the panel off to get the handel off, but i think you would be able to realign it and put the pannel back on. Atleast thats how it is on some cars...

im glad to hear theres someone else out there with manual crank windows... my friends are always giving shit for them. "You have a new damn car and you dont have power windows, what a peice of shit." ya i hear that all the time, but personally i like them, dont have to have any keys to turn the car on to roll the windows up or down. plus they wont wear out like power windows, easy to fix if something breaks, lighter to make the car faster, hehehe, etc. the only time i would us power windows is to roll down the window when someone pulls up next to me and i want to talk to them. Kinda sucks having to lean over the seat and roll the window down, i just look at the other person while i roll down the window and telepathicly tell them 'yep, I have the Cheap Edition (CE) Corolla, manual windows"

sorry for blabbing, just felt like saying that.

Ok well i was curious too so i went out to my car and tried pulling the handel off, i pulled pretty damn hard and it didnt budge at all. I said earlier that you would have to get the door pannel off first before you could take the handel off, but now that i think of it, that dosnt make sense, it would be kinda hard to get the pannel off and pull it over the door handle, so there must be a way to get the handel off without taking the pannel off.

ok you guys heres the trick to that whole removing the handle thing all ov my cars have been manual windows i never had power windows too many bad experiences with my family with them... there is a clip you have to remove before you can remove the handle itself. all you need is basically a flat head screwdriver and patience to get. its shaped like a U that is behind the handle. good luck yes i do know what you are talking about and it is a pain i just havent had the time to do that yet

By "handle" I'm assuming you mean the window crank.

Bimmernut is right, there's a clip that has to be removed, and the crank will slide right off. But there's easier ways to get it off than with a little screwdriver. First way, hit any parts store and get a window crank clip remover. They're about two bucks and work very easily. Another way (thanks for pointing it out Oxymoron) is to simply take a shop rag and wedge in behind the handle part of the crank. You should be able to wiggle the clip out. There's a thread here where Oxy reproduced the pictures on this process.

Be careful when it does come off, the little thing likes to fly and it's hard to find later. You also don't wanna be known as ol' one-eye...

After you've got the handle off, you can re-mount it in any position you want. Factory puts it pointing up so people don't have to reach down so far to find it.
