    flywheel questions

    hey everyone..got a couple questions. anyone out there have a lightweight flywheel (if so, what kind, how many pounds etc.). how do u like it...very noticable? and also, does anybody know how much an 05 flywheel weighs @ stock?

    light fglywheel = fast revving... well yes and no!

    If its light your car will shoot up to rpm limiter super fast and bounce around... with F/I you first get a bigger traction problem...

    Also inertia comes into play when you shift your rpms will drop fast as shit too so a heavier flyuwheel keeps your rpms up to land back in boost zone!

    there are tradeoffs but our stock flywheel in my opinion and a good ammount of other is better for F/I

    N/A however will benefit from it..

    also your car can stall quick on ya... and going from 6K rpm shifting losing boost and then trying to rev back up will suck... could possibly stall ya out too!

    for F/I your money would be better spent elsewhere.... one of the top power producing GTS cars has his stock as well because of inertia... and advantages of the weight...

    for N/A its nice and crisp but be ready to shift quick

    its most likely 13 lbs or very close 12 - 14 max

    the gts celica i know is 13 lbs so id assume ours was very close to the 12.5 - 13 lb area... 18 - 20 is way out there....

    if you want to go f/i later (turbo/blower) id suggest keeping stock flywheel...

    Stock is ~13lb..Fidanza is 9lb 1.5oz.

    Why would you keep the stock flywheel for f/i? Faster revving == faster spooling..

    i would only go with a billet steel aftermarket flywheel.... that, or get a scatter shield

    I upgraded to a Fidanza 8lb Flywheel and absolutely love it. My car feels way more perky now and I have had zero problems. As for not being recommended for Forced Induction I would disagree because the RPM's don't drop enough between shifts to bother a turbo and plus when you stop back on the gas the engine will be far less restricted accelerating allowing more exhaust gas to be created and the turbo will zip up faster. Anyways thats just my thought. I also went with an ACT Extreme Pressure plate and 'S' grade street disc and it hooks up like a crazy man.

    me next clutch will be the act xt with street disk which I am getting soon... :( 3rd clutch so far and only 61K miles on the car LoL... although my 2nd clutch was a 6 puck race type clutch so slipping 1st gear all the time killed it

    I have a Fidanza flywheel and have no problems with revs dropping -- just shift really fast. :D

    I haven't had stalling issues either -- I've definitely accidentally stalled a few times, but if I'm paying attention, it's not a problem..lol

    The 'S' street disc by ACT is suposed to stand up to insane ammounts of abuse at the expense of your flywheel surface :) I know they make 2 street discs and the S is the one that stands up to rediculous heat.

    Yeah go with the street disc. Its awesome. I dont know how long mine will hold up so I can't really tell you if its any better then other stuff you have used but I can tell you that it will just about snap the front axels off your car if you dump the clutch at redline with the XT pressure plate <img src="http://vvti.net/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" />

    I've had experience with different types of clutches and flywheels. For stree applications I suggest a light weight flywheel and a dual friction type disc with about 2000 lbs of clamp force pressure plate. This will provide good performance and be very streetable. If you have any questions, I suggest that you talk with the companies who make the clutch kits and ask them what you want it for. They can give you the best advice, in most cases.
