Florida School catches heat from parents...

check out this article...about a school in florida...
    http://www.local6.com/news/8345157/detail.html

Personally I think the parents need to chill out.

Maybe the school should have told the parents, but like some teachers said, it would have ruined the experiment. I wish my schools would have thought outside the box like this. What a creative and interactive way to really get kids to think about the situations our world was in back then.

If it was taught like it was in a classroom, then it may not have sunk in.

In high school our teacher took us all to see Schindler's List. (parental consent of course) but it was aweosme I thought.

    Opinions?

Altho the kids would of been prepared if told, it would have been a good idea to let hte parents know. At least with the kids knowing, they'd have a better understanding of what is happening and how things really worked back in the day.

I thought it was a high school at first but these are 8th graders! they're still little kids! Even though it was a good experiment, they could of done things a little better, IMO.

I'm not really surprised that the parents are pissed off. It was a good intention, but a bad idea. I don't want to know what experiment the teachers would have thought up when discussing sexually transmitted diseases...

i agree, i think the parents have a right to get upset about the issue since they werent told about it before hand. What if there were developing a cure for aids and decided to give aids to your kids to test it.....the example is different but the idea is the same. Parents have the right to know when "testing" or "lessons" are being performed on their children. So they are better prepared to deal with the issues and reprocussions that it brings to the house.
And i dont think 8th grade was a good place to start, they are still to young and impressionable at that age. and i understand impressionable is what they want but i think its playing with fire..
i dont have kids but i'd like someone here to respond who does have kids..... what do you say when your 8th grader (since i dont have kids im not good with ages but whatever age an 8th grader is) comes home and is crying and says " i was a jew today" You have no idea whats going on or why he's crying. what do you say. i think the school screwed up..

sometimes it takes something extreme to get people to really understand.

the only difference here... is that the jewish people went through alot worse then having to go the back of the lunch line or not be able to drink from a fountain... sounds like the kids really missed the point. and so did the parents.

of course the kids missed the point. they didnt' even know what was going on! If they would of known, then they would of been..."dag, if this is bad, then it must have been worse". but the kids didn't know anything until the end of the day. and by then, i bet half if not more of them felt like sh*t cause of the way they were treated.
