its normal.... it will idle over 2k for 1st 2 min-ish.... then it will go to ... 700-900rpm...

u gotta break your engine correctly... and dont rev over 3k for the first 1000-2000-ish miles.....

    ....or so i heard.... ^^v

    First startup idle RPMs

Just got a 04 Corolla S. When I first start it up in the AM, the engine idles @ about 2000 RPMs, until I put it in gear and actually move it. After that initial move it idles just under 1000. This car is brand new, only 525 miles on it. It is a manual, I do not give it gas to start, just clutch. I can't figure out why it idles so high after starting it in the morning. Not a end of the world type thing, but it just started happening, and it's quite annoying. I like not being able to hear the engine when idling, after years of driving crap louder cars. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks!

They are quite high at first if you are in a hurry, in my automatic you get a pretty good jolt coming out of park if you dont wait a bit and let it settle down some. In my opinion they idle too low when they are warm (emissions issue I would guess)

Try to start it cold once and see if it does not start to drop after a while. 45 seconds to 1.5 minutes it should if normal.

it's just the cold start injector adding extra fuel to the mixture because the motor is cold
