FIRST INTERIOR POST!!! Your thoughts on racing seats.

I'll take the plunge and make the first post in the "interior" section!

I'm seriously considering to replace the somewhat uncomfortable stock front seats of my "Type S" with racing seats, hopefully gaining more leg-room with the thiner seat-back and erogonomic comfort (not to mention style!). Are there any issues I should be aware of before making the plunge?

My two biggest concerns are the seatbelts (issue with tensioners?) and airbags (sensors?) I notice that the driver and passenger have independent seatbelt sensors so that if one isn't wearing them, the airbags won't deploy in a collission. Any ideas on how to overcome these issues?

I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of adjustable racing seats with sliders for what I consider to be a great bargain ($650CDN for the pair with sliders) and don't want to pass it up. At the same time, I don't want to be stuck with seats I cannot install due to issues with the sensors.

    Thanks for the help!

I think the seats are pretty comfy. that's why i picked the Corolla over the Civic. I still can't believe that you think the seats are uncomfortable. It's alot more comfortable than alot of other car seats. Racing seats are very uncomfortable. I used to drive a Mitsubishi 3000 GT and i think it had racing seats and they are were uncomfortable. the seats were hard and not cushioned. Especially the seats in the back. I hated having to drive long distance in that car. But then again different people think differently.

I never knew that the airbag was associated with the sensor thing. You bought up a very interesting point. Maybe you should customize your "new" seats to do that. Like take your old seats out and dissect it and look around for wires and then figure out how it all works and then use that same method and do that to your "new" seats.

I think u buy the seats and if you can't put it in your car, you can always sell it out again and maybe make a profit while you're at it.

the sensors for the belts as far as i know are with the set belt locks( what ever you call it) the ones that are on the side of the seats. you have to install them back after you put on your racing seats.

the airbag does not deploy when are not wearing your seat belts since it may become more harzardous to the driver.

some people like racing seat because they are into performance...
it keeps you planted whil you take on corners..

the down side of it would be that they are a harder and they tend to hug the body( making it harder to get in and out of the car)

Well for me, i want confortable seats, i am not gonna sit in a hard seat that is really low for hours of driving. I like comfy seats, so maybe racing seats aren't for me. Plus i don't find racing seats nice looking. They are nice to some people, but to me, they looks a lil odd.

    Racing seats are Great

Bucket Seats, Some companies say they have racing seats but they really arent. I test drove the SE-R Spec V, NIssan Claims that their seat is the same as the Skyline and that itll hold u in place. Bull**** !!! Ive never sat in a Skyline but those damm seats were awful they looked real nice with the mesh and all but offered no support. The civic Si even tho its not that awsome the seats were badass Suede buckets that held u in place, I wish i had those in the Corolla !!! I like to take my corners fast cause it is fun to drive this car. but the prob is the seats dont hold even tho theyre comfy. I have to use my right hand to push against the other seat while holding the steering wheel with the left to keep me from flying out of the car. ITs a funny thing to watch me as i do this but since i cant afford buckets yet I guess im gonna have to keep doing this 8)

Ok i don't understand how they consider seats to be bucket seats.

i don't like the stick shift gear thing on the Civic Si. I can't stand to look at it. it just looks funny to me. I've only seen the Si twice and i just walked by it. I don't they sell the Si in where i live, but they sell it in the next town over. The Si is pretty long actually. i figure it would be short and small, but it's kinda long. looks roomy.
