    Fires In Oklahoma

Well, I was thinkin bout makin a thread a few days b4 but didnt. Now, I feel like I should make one. Its actually starting to get very bad. News has said we havent had a decent rainfall since August 2005. Low humidity and unusually high temperatures aid these fires. Today, temperatures reached around 72 and even on new years day, it was 75 degrees. All this week temperatures are gonna range between 60-70 degrees with sunny days for the next 7 days.

Saturday, I drove from Tulsa to Norman/OKC for the OU-Alabama basketball game. On my way, I believe I saw three fires just along the highway. On the way back, they were all still burning.

Two days ago, about three miles away from my house, a fire scorched about a square mile of land right next to the highway so they had to shut down the highway and divert traffic. It was kinda crazy cuz right across the highway, there are nothing but high class, brand new interconnected neighborhoods for four miles.

And today....right across the street from my highschool, there is an open field about a 1/2 square mile large....I was just going home when I saw this...

Sorry for the picture quality but I took it on my cell phone while I was driving by. It was kinda scary cuz there was a group of people on my right helplessly watching the fire on my left and the fire itself on my right. It was starting to spread to the rest of the field but two fire trucks arrived shortly after I took this picture.

This drought is not only sparking fires everywhere on a daily basis...it is also causing other problems...a city north of Tulsa called Bartlesville has to connect two nearby lakes together because the lakes are drying up and those cities rely on these lakes as their drinking water supply. Also, farmer after farmer files for bankruptcy. Oklahoma's agriculture economy is losing money because of this drought.

I didnt kno this until just a little bit ago but apparently, about less than a mile away from where I took that picture (above), another fire started but was put out quickly. This one burned probably like 10 sq. yds.
