    few basic audio questions...

    Hi audio newby here,

I have a basic system (Panasonic Deck, 200W amp and 1 10" sub)
    Got a few questions:

    1. How long can I listen to my system when my car is off without it killing the battery?

    2. Is there a way I can check to see the status/life of my battery?

    3. Are there any other options regarding running my system when my cars off? (eg. getting a seperate battery for just the audio...)

    Thanks in advance

question one.. is not answerable.. it depens on how good your battery is, how high you have the volume, and how hard you push your amp..

yes, you can keep an eye on voltage. buy a volt meter. you can get one that will plug into your cig lighter for really cheap.

yes you can put a seperate battery, but from what it looks like, your'e not doing anything special, (SQ or SPL shows) so it's a worthless mod.. just crank the vehicle every hour for a few mins to ensure battery power for your final startup after having yoru system on.

i've run my system before for 4-5 hours (at very low volume, with the subs turned off) without killing my batt. then again, i also went 6 hours one time and woke up (i slept at a rest stop) with a dead battery.. sucked balls..

Like CivicEater said, question number 1 will not have a definate answer.

As for checking to see the status/life of your battery. I bought a Distribution Block since I have one amp powering subs and another powering internals. If you plan on doing the same you could by a Distribution Block with a digital voltmeter. Similar to this one...

    Distribution Block w/ Digital Voltmeter

As for getting another battery, not worth it unless you plan on doing some competition/show work. I just occasionally check the voltmeter and start my car when it starts to get a little low.
