    fading domelight?

I keep hearing that the 03 rollas have some sort of automatic dome light feature...one person says the dome comes on when you open the door, stays on for 15 seconds after you close the door, then fades to black...someone else says it stays on for 15 seconds and just shuts off sharp.

Mine does neither, it follows the door, like a refrigerator, door open = on, door closed = off.

Is that a option on the car, or is it avaiable on the LE only (mine's and wife's are CE), or am I boneheading some setting somewhere? I read the manual but guess I skipped the domelight part...

    Thanks for any help!

it should fade out when the door is closed and the power door lock is pressed to lock the doors. it also should fade out when u lock the car with the remote. thats how it works with my rolla :)

it only came on the S and LE models as a "high end feature effect" the low end ones dont do it.

I'm not rubbing it in man, just stating what I know. Tons of dealers dont know what they are talking about, this site is way more helpful then dealership. Well............unless your going back for warrenty repairs etc.

actually on your interior light switch, there is an option where it enable the dome light to come on when the car is unlocked and it stays on for 15 sec unless u start the car. i have a ce and mine does have it. also it just shuts right off instead of fading out.

Do you have power locks on your rolla? I'd wonder if I had a defective something-or-the-other, but my wife's 03 acts exactly like mine (she doesn't have power locks either). I sat in the car with the manual in my lap, tried every setting there is on that dome / dash light control, no luck yet. Tried to call my dealer but kept getting his VM. Maybe I'll take a cruise down to the service dept tomorrow during a break.

    Thanks for all the advice!

jjbraga...it's my two first initials (John J) and my last name. Italian and Portugese, no Indian. Was thinking of asking Methane how I could change my username without losing the connection to all my posts so far. Maybe later.

I'll hit the service department at my dealer tomorrow if I get a chance. Will let ya know what they say.

Just got done putting my new tunes in the car. Figure about 20 hours total. It sounds SO SWEET. Power=Clarity. And I can use it to torture my neighbor next time the jerk PUTS WATER SPOTS ALL OVER MY CAR WATERING HIS LAWN.

Time to put the brat in bed...tty later.

Got an answer from the dealer...he says that's the "Illuminated Entry" feature, and it follows power locks, which are only available on the LE.

Told him don't think that's true, you can get a CE with power locks. He says depends on what region you're in, here in New Hampshire, you can't get a CE with power locks.

Odd, but that's what he said...

Agreed...they're salesmen. They'll tell you the car you're looking at will wipe your butt for you if it means a sale.

Didn't get time to run down and ask one of the service techs today. Maybe tomorrow will be a slower day at work and I can.

oxy, that's incredible! My dealer told me there were 14 zones Toy uses to sell different options on Corolla's, but best I can tell it's broken down into more than 14.

So I guess the fading (or automatic) door light just wasn't a option on my car, since I can't get a CE with power locks where I'm at (how odd is that?), and it comes with the power locks.

Well, settles THAT question! Would have been nifty to have a colored bulb in there and show off the automatic feature, but I can deal (without) it.

Thanks for all the help again!
