So I have a 2001 corolla LE and have the factory alarm still, I was wondering if by simply cutting the wire leading to that red cylinder that creates the siren for the alarm and replacing it with something a little louder if that would work. Or do I have to do something else in order to make the siren on the alarm louder.

Well I think it would work, because that's what I did with my horn when I changed it to something better (read: not wimpy)... just took out the wire from the stock horn, bolted on the new one, put the wire back and good to go. With an alarm it might be something more complex but I doubt it. It sounds fairly simple to me. Just my 2 cents.
