    Fabbing Skidplates

Not sure exactly where to post this...it's not really suspension...not really powertrain...but then again there isn't a "GasTank" section of the forum so I stuck it here.

Anybody here have any experience fabricating skid-plates? Josh...I'm looking in your direction... :D

After the fiasco of the gastank hole...I plan on building a real sweet steel skidplate to protect it...but hoping for a few pointers first.

    Thanks.

naw that stuffs just made to look good... I would say make her out of 1/4 inch thick steel and call it good.. I saw a couple of mounting points up under there that we could mount it to... :)

yeah... diamond plate is really not durable enough. 1/4" should be fine... hell that may even be a little thick, hehe

Lol...if the plate drops my quarter mile time by a couple tenths of a second due to weight...you won't hear me complaining. ;)

The general idea is to take a pair of 80 grade pipes... weld a pair of of bolting plates to each one...bolt them directly into the frame so that they run along the edges of the tank.
    E | T | E
    D | A | D
    G | N | G
    E | K | E

Then cover the tank itself with some thing...possibly 1/4" or 1/8" steel plating...covered of course in the rust-proof Krylon paint color known as "Hammered."
