    Engine help?

I was driving down the road and my engine started to knock. I know its coming from the head, sounds just like knonk but its not. Any thoughts? could it be loose valves? Thanks

i took it to the dealership today. 3 weeks ago they replaced my timing chain tensioner due to an oil leak. I think it might be chain slap. its coming from the timing chain side. i hope this problem isnt major cause my prototype cams are on order.

Alright - so how in the hell does a rod, bearing cap and crankshaft go bad?? What happened to cause this? This isn't a typical problem on Toyota engines that are properly maintained. I'd get the parts and do it myself, if I were you.

I mean, the only thing that could really cause this would be oil starvation or detonation or perhaps crazy boost pressure if FI.

    Let us know the verdict,

Well - do you think it was leaking oil? That would have to be a pretty big oil leak. Did you get an oil pressure warning light or anything? Or was it just kind of like fine one moment and the next not so fine??

    Odd....very odd indeed.

Well, low oil pressure can cause big problems with the bearings, obviously. But if something besides oil starvation caused the bearing to crap out, then you'd have low oil pressure as a result - and that would just be a snowball effect. Bad bearing as a result of low pressure and low oil pressure as a result of a bad bearing. One bad bearing causes a system-wide drop in pressure...that's why it's so important that bearing clearances are correct down to the 0.001th of an inch. Just make sure it's fixed right or your engine will self-destruct again. That's why I'd do it myself if I were you.
