clean it, mask it, then paint it, detail it, then put a clear coat over it

    engine cover painted>

I'm thinking of removing my stock engine cover and having it painted professionally.. just wondering if anyone else on the boards has done this...

    any words of wisdom?

It's easy enough for most people to do themselves at home. Clean it very well, use high temp engine paint or plastic paint.

i didnt use it on mine, I cleaned the cover, spread a tacky coat on it so the paint will adhere, did a primer, I did it the color of my car (silver), then i masked everything but the letters and did them with the new krylon or something plastic paint, then did 2 clear coats....actually i did it the first time and meesed up and had my dad do it the second time, pays off when your dad used to be an old time mechanic haha
