    Emanage Ultimate hot start problems.

I've been having issues with my car hot starting (starting up after the engine's been off for a little while). The car takes excessive amounts of cranking and I usually end up tripping my 100amp circuit breaker (battery in trunk). Cold start (first thing in the morning) seems fine and the engine starts fine if it's had some time to cool down. Does anyone know what I need to adjust in order to fix this? I know the MX-5 people fixed this problem by using the IAC map on the EMU. I'm not sure that mine is even wired up to the IAC as it wasn't labeled in the install guide (anyone know the correct wire for that)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

toyota doesn't use the iac for cold start.... they use a thermal switch in the coolant.... but the newer cars that don't have csi's (like yours) uses longer pulses in the injectors....

if you're having no problems when it's cold, but problems when it's hot.... then I would (if I were you) look into the warm up sequence itself (not just the cold start)....

I say this because with a stock system, even if the car is hot it should still have a higher amount of fuel % given for the following:

a specific amount for the first (up to) 250 cycles
a specific amount for the cold start (which the above includes... but many aftermarket and systems you can control both seperately)
a specific percentage that decreases (ie from 130 at x temp then 125 at x+10 temp..... until it's at 100%) as temps go up

older toyota fuel injection setups are easy for these.... it's built mechanically into the cold start injector system itself and requires little - no playing with these functions.... either way, this is a semi-common (user) problem with megasquirt

if you have controls for all of the above... then I would look into those. If the emanage doesn't allow for any, then you might have a bad coolant sensor.

    also... to add

you might also have different settings for the cold start pulsewidths (generally it's around the same place as the amount required for the first 250 cycles).... if it's off even .1 ms then the car can be hard starting....

Thanks a lot! You've been the most help. I was beginning to think that maybe the injector settings I have are off in my EMU. I set my 625cc's lag time to 1.14ms (same injectors that MRW sells) and my stock 260cc's to .82, but I think my 625cc's lag time was measured at 14V and my stock's was at 12V. My new setting I'll try for stock is .56. I'll find out when I have a chance to mess with the car again.

Yes, I am very glad he's on board. Finally, someone who can post up some answer to my obscure questions.
