How old is your battery? An old battery wont hold a charge even if your alt. is giving it one. BTW you can take the battery and alt to Pep Boys, etc. to get tested. I have an '01 and have had to replace the stock one 6 mo. ago. I got the next size up battery at WalMart and I have pulleys, 1100w total through 2 amps and not one problem even w/ the A/C on. Id highly recommend getting the next higher size battery

    electrical fuck ups

    hey all

i have this weird ass problem where the battery will die if i don't drive my car every day or every few days. it's not the battery because i replaced it and it still fucks up. I have a system, but i checked that and it's not drawing any current when the car is off. I also checked all of the fuses but that's not it either. I am reluctant to buy an alternator because definitely way too expensive for a "guess and check" solution. does anybody know what's going on? anyone had this happen to their car?

    thanks

You could try to un-hook the - terminal if you know you wont start it for a day just to make sure.

A good test for draw is to get one of the cheap 12v test lamps (just a bulb inside of a clear housing with sharp probe and ground wire) and place it in series with the un-hooked - cable and the empty - battery post the brighter the lamp the more draw you have.

How about your trunk lamp is it staying on ?

thats good your asking about it. Many people would say alternator. But my brother had his battery draining on his geo and it was his distributor.

my battery is like 6 months old... at first i thought it was the battery that was messed up, so i replaced it with the next size up already. yeah, i've looked at all of my system wires... the battery still drains with the system (amp + sub only) on so i dont think that the system is an issue.

i'll definitely take it to sears or pepboys tho. thanks for the advice!

Yeah, take it to pepboys, advanced auto, sears, and they will check it. Sears will check your entire electrical system for like 12 bucks.

If you alternator is bad, it wont charge up your battery when you are driving around....and your battery wont have enough charge to turn your starter.

SOMETHING is draining your battery if its not your alternator that is bad. Have you checked ALL of your system wires...even a cut in one of your wires may cause a drain.

if you have a checker/schucks/kragen nearby, they'll check the battery/alt/starter in or out of the car for FREE..... sounds like the alt is bad...... have it checked....

ooh free is much better than 12$$.

some guy on CC said that my alternator is gone. he also suggested that a cap would prevent the alternator from going again.

    A cap just prolongs it.
