A politically correct Evo? "Well, why not?" It must have been what the engineers were thinking w/ this technology showcase. Call it the "Electric Evo", if you will. It’s a Lancer Evolution IX powered by four outer-rotor in-wheel motors, high-efficiency direct drive motors that fit neatly into the 20-inch wheels. Maximum combined output is 270 horsepower, drawing energy from a lithium-ion battery system under the floor. Zero to 100 kph performance is rated at less than 8 seconds, and top speed is 180 kph, leaving today’s electric vehicles standing.

0-60 in 8 seconds??? THATS NO EVO, the last evo i saw was 0-60 in 4.3, this electric shit is garbage.

That is not bad - I could see that eventually coming out for mainstream vehicles.

Just think about it, individual motors on each wheel. With enough processing power and sensor inputs, you've got the most advanced ABS, traction control, AWD systems with the ability to drive in almost any mixed traction surface. They've arleady came a long way with these systems - getting the weight, power requirements, and integration costs down even more are the only things preventing a system like that from going mainstream.
