    ECU tuning

I know the ECU is tuned for 87-octane gas. How hard would it be to re-tune it for higher octane (for example, 92 octane)? How expensive will ROM tuning run me?

toyota ecu's dont use roms - we're not driving hondas you know....

the ecu will actually adjust itself if you put higher octane gas as long as you're in closed-loop mode. the ecu looks at the long and short term fuel trims and makes calculations on how much fuel to use and how much to advance ignition timing. granted you'd be able to capitalize much more with an emanage if you wanted to go to a higher grade fuel, the stock ecu will tune itself (to a certain degree) to those types of changes.

bottom line - emanage is basically the best way to get gains from something like switching to higher octane fuel.

installation is a bitch because it will take many hours and shops charge a lot for labor, but if you do it yourself you can get the cost down to about 400 maybe

dunno how much install would cost, did it myself

Ive got an emanage ultimate in my car and with the help of Vortex's guide, I installed it myself in about 2-3 hours. It was a pain to do, but well worth not paying a shop to do it. On the rare occasion that I use 93 octane, i usually advance the ignition a few degrees. Its not much of a power gain, but it is barely noticable. Ive also got my fuel map tuned to A/F 14.7 through the whole powerband. Without the tuning, your engine runs REALLY rich at WOT. Ive got a wideband o2 sensor installed. I know.

They are quite pricey. Ive got an Innovate Motorsports setup. I even set and tune the gauge from my laptop. However, all useless stuff now.

You can just go with Split Second PnP tuning. If you have modifications, they can take those into consideration to map you the best tune possible for the most power.
