Engine E-brake light comes on when shifting

you guyz, I have the same problem w/ my 99 for a long time, itz nothing 2 worry about really....itz the pressure sensor which is located by the e-brake handle, under the center console, and when u disengage the brake, the lever on the bottom of the handle pushes this lil button black down and thatz sendz a signal telling the ecu that your e-brake is off, but the problem is after awhile this lil button loses its signal/connection. So everything will work properly but w/ the ecu not reading that the e-brake is disengaged because of the lost signal, then the light goes on saying it is on, when in fact it is really not. Everything will work the same, except the light will bug. But if the light stayz on constantly or just every now and then, I would for sure check the brake fluid, just in case itz a simple fix.

Any idea why it's doing this and how I can prevent it? It's driving me up the damn wall. I've tried dfferent shift points and it doesn't help. It just comes on 90% of the time regardless to when I shift. The only thing I've done so far is disconnect the DRL's.

yea I'm having the same problem with my 98 but only that it's been on for a while, even when I drive or come to a complete stop and I dk what to do. Toyota will check it for me but I won't pay $150 just for a check up and then I have to pay more for them to fix it man I HATE DEALERSHIPS!!!! LOL.......and the worst part is that no one else wants to mess with it so sucks lol.

I have the same problem on my 01... just recentley about a week or 2 ago... randomly when I'm driving or when i stop the Ebrake light comes on.

Check Ur Brake Fluid Guys

My brake fluid is right above the minimum mark. I'll put some more in before work and see if it fixes it. Hopefully I'm just a moron.

I would be looking the the brake fluid level !!! If it is low I would be checking your front pads !! CW

oh yea big time. I might have a friend mess with it or if not then I guess I'll have to waste at least $300 on the dealership<<<<that's what they estimated lol............ so yea my case is bad but anything for my rolla lol.

mine used to do that, it stops everytime after i change the front brake pads

My light used to go on and off..then it stayed on..adding brake fluid fixed the problem. =)

Just keep in mind that unless there is a leak (come-on these are Toyotas we are talking about here) When you or the mechanic pushes your calipers back in during replacement of pads the extra fluid you put in has no where to go except out the top. So keep an eye on it to prevent from spilling (takes the paint off quickly !!)

i know it's been said, but that is the REAL solution..

if you are putting on new pads, use a paper towel to soak out some of the brake fluid when backing the calipers up..
