    Drove first American car.

Well I just got back from Vegas a day ago and an hour ago just stepped back into my house which I haven't seen in 4 days. An exhausting but very fun trip. Well me and my gf rented a car from enterprise. The only cars available at the time was a Chevy Cobalt(PUKE) and the PT Cruiser. So of course I got the PT Cruiser. Now I have ridden in American cars before and haven't thought much about it. I've rolled around in my friend's Pontiac Sunfire and I thought it was the biggest piece in the world. lol. A lot of the exterior and interior pieces didn't interlock and fit very well. And it rattled like crazy even though it was new. And it was slow. Well getting in the PT and driving it for 8-9 hours for hundreds of miles really didn't change my mind. The car was brand new with only 6000 miles on the engine. I don't want to stereotype but not the greatest cars. It had a smooth but boat-like ride. The throttle response was nice and somewhat crisp but the acceleration sucks a left nut. It's a four cylinder but the gas mileage sucks. I had to fill it up four times the entire trip and it has over a 13-14 gallon tank capacity. WTF? My car would've taken 2 fillups with gas to spare. So PT Cruiser = no speed + no power + not so great gas mileage. It does look unique though and it's got lots of interior cabin room. On the way home, I was finally starting to get used to the driveability and manuverability of the car but I still missed my Corolla like crazy. I'm sure other American cars would fair better if I had a chance to drive them but I guess I'm not having the best of luck with them. What's everyone's experience like? Am I just driving crappy selections or what? I know the PT Cruiser comes with a turbo edition so that would be a lot faster, but then the gas mileage would be a lot worse. I was only averaging 20 miles to the gallon for the entire trip.

american cars have poor gas mileage. i have a 98 chevy malibu. i have to baby the gas to get 24mpg. and when i'm in those, "im in a rush" days, i get 18mpg.

i think the pt cruiser was the beach mobile people bought to take to the beach, surf, and smoke weed, and not care about the mpg because they were high to begin with.

next, they were sooo high and sunburned, that their car ran out of gas, and they ended up hitch hiking to the nearest gas station.

yup that's how high you need to be to get into a pt cruiser.

just one more thing, drugs are bad...

HEY this is an off-topic thread... kiss it!

LOL... it's no wonder American car companies are going bankrupt. No one wants to pay for more gas these days. Foreign oil is crippling America.

LOL That reminds me. I went to the LA Auto Show a few years back when the Hummer had been out for a year or 2. Well it was on display and the spokesperson was naming off it's qualities. So me and my friend asked him what the mileage on those were. He kept avoiding the question and tried to promote some test drive event. LOL We kept asking the question until he shut up for while and got really uncomfortable before saying that the rated mpg was around 10-15. hahaha We went off on him for that bs number quoting from realtime mpg figures. Check out this site. It's hilarious. http://www.fuh2.com/

if you want a gas guzzling car, might as go all the way, drove a Hummer H1. those are fun.. but handles like crap. and you have to yell to talk to the person sitting next to you .. lol. my first american car was a buick. V6 and super luxurious at the time. it was a 87. i miss it. the comfort part. but it always broke. I want to try driving a ford focus RS. They dont have those here in the US though.. bleh..

my car gets nowhere near 30MPG, even on the highway. a turbo version gets less than i do, and you HAVE to buy premium gas. the thing about the motor in the PTC is it can be opened up for more power...intake, exhaust, etc really allow an owner to recover lost power in a domestic. the cruiser's also not a light vehicle...remember, power to weight ratio can be a killer. heavy also = more fuel consumption.

my ex when working as a babysitter for this rich family in NJ got a 1990 Buick LeSabre 6 cylinder... and as much as I don't like american cars... this was the shit! i mean the power steering was better than in my rolla, everything electric, seats, colum elevation, mirrors, ect.... the car had power I felt like driving a limo but it could take turns quite tightly...
