Like the title says, if anyone in North America has the 4AGE 20V in their car, I would love to talk to you. So, let me know!

Does your friend with that engine in his Celica go on any forums? I'd love to talk to him, or even you if you ever drove the car... etc.?

Oh yeah, you have a 4AGE in your AE92 correct? How much does your AE92 weigh? And do you have a site that talks about your car, mods, etc.?

Since were kinda on the subject, the silver top has stronger internals over the blacktop right? Alright, so why can the blacktop rev higher? Or is it because the blacktop is VVTI?

no, i'm pretty sure neither one is vvti, but i might be wrong on that.

i wanna say toyotaspeed90 has a 20V. actually, there's like 3-4 pl on here that have one.

EDIT: u'll find more ppl taht have 20V's over on toyotanation.

^^ Silvertop is VVT, Blacktop is VVT-i.

The blacktop is actually weaker, due to the higher copmression ratio, and it also does rev a little higher, yes.

Oh, and i do have a 20v... But i'm not in North America..

So from what I gather, if that engine is going into a daily driver, i'd be better off getting a 4AGE Smallport, since with a little tuning, it will be putting out about the same usable horsepower, and be cheaper to buy, and easier to find parts for... correct? Lot's of information though, I appreciate it you guys :) I learned alot on the 20V

I think im gonna go with the 4AGE Smallport... next question is, how hard is it to swap an auto. to a 5 spd. if I buy a front clip of a 4AGE ?

The ST and BT are both VVTi. The ST is a discreet VVTi with and air flow sensor/meter and approx. 10:1 CR. The BT is a continuously VVTi with a MAP sensor and Approx. 11:1 CR. I say approx. because I can't remember if it's 10:1 or 10.5:1 and 11:1 or 11.5:1 respectively. The black top is weaker, but by it being weaker does not mean it's weak; if you know what I'm saying. To put it another way, the 4agze conrods are supposed to be the same thickness as the ST's. whether it's the same part number I couldn't tell you, but this just means that the ST came with strong internals and I guess the BT came with optimal internals. The BT feels much more powerful because of lighter internals and a bigger intake cam, plus the CVVT helps to make it more responsive.
By discreet VVT I meant that the VVT adjust from less aggressive cam timing for low end torque to more aggressive cam timing for top end power in one switch. The black top does it continuously for a smoother drive and better broader torque curve.
The cars are great engine, but in NA form the do fall short of the VTEC competition especially because parts are so expensive. Cams really wake these engines up, I'd recommend www.tedcomponents.com in canada for these because they are reasonably priced and good quality. Toda, TRD, TOMS, and BLITZ ask for your left nut as a deposit for these cams.
These motors are best turbo charged. Anywhere from 200-350 WHP depending on setup. Internals wise, japan doesn't change the BT internals for turbo charging so they should be fine with proper fuel tuning. To be safe use the silver top rods with 4agze pistons.
Check this site out for info on ST and BT. I live on this site.

Oh, and I can't lie to you, the ST feels slow so best in a light car. Maybe it's because we in Jamaica get them in some heavy AE101 levin bodies. or the fact that at best they give you 122 WHP stock, but they feel slow.

i don't have a 20v nor would i ever get one..... IMO it's a waste of money in NA.... hard to get parts for, barely outperforms the smallport 16V which is easy enough to find and 1/2 the cost (not including harness or ecu's for either one).....

    http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/219038/9

I dyno'd at 109.6whp..... with a damn near free set of cams (bigport 4age) and some tuning i'm hoping to hit the 120whp mark...... a local mk1 mr2 with 20V silvertop dyno'd at 120.9whp

^^ To clear that up... the ST is NOT VVT-i. It doesnt have the smarts. The VVT kicks in at 3500rpm and Full Throttle only. The Blacktop however, has VVT-i, as it kicks in at 3500rpm, full throttle, idle and a certain acceleration level, hence the i (inteligent) part of the VVT-i.

As for Compression Ratios, the ST is 10.5:1 and the Blacktop is 11:1.

The rods on the Silvertop are slightly different to the GZE, they are the same size, but the GZE rods (and low-comp pistons) are semi-forged. The blacktop, from memory, has the same sized rods as the 4A-FE's, which are skinnier than the GE's and GZE's, hence the weight.

I must admit tho, the FE i had did FEEL faster than the ST, because it had lighter internals, but the ST is definately faster. Put it this way, before i did the swap, i could not even come close to keeping up with my friends 2.4L I6 N/A lancer... Now i can smoke him in 1,2 and 3. After that tho, the gearing is way, way too tall on the 5 speeds.

your talking: you have an auto now, and the front-clip is manual? That is easy. Straight swap - engine, trans and axles.

Be weary of the GE ECU's tho... they are transmission sensitive, unlike the FE ECU's. The A/T ECU's will run a M/T, but the M/T ECU's wont run an A/T. So in otherwords, if all you can find is an auto front-clip, you can just drop a C50 on there, so long as you got the Axles too.

if I have the front clip though, and a 5 spd in the car after, with the engine and tranny that are suppose to go together, wont the 4age ECU work fine on the car? I'm getting the 5 spd. transmission witht he swap... so why not use it?

yeh. What i'm saying though, is if you ever want to go back to Auto, make sure you get an Auto ECU... as these will run both. The Manual ECU will not run the Auto Tranny tho.

Ohhh... and I never plan on going back to auto. with the car, but yeah, good idea, i'll probably hang out to the ecu and auto tranny for awhile at least...

because the only way you'll find a complete front end with a smallport 16V is if you buy a US ae92 and take it's parts...... the engines and sometimes the transmissions get imported.... generally importers look for 1/2 cuts that people need everything of... ie, the 4agze, the 20V's......

So the best thing would be to buy a 4AGE Smallport, Transmission, ECU, Harness from say Japan, then find a wrecked AE101 5 Speed in a junkyard, and start taking its parts
