Do I need to rear-mount my head unit?

    Hello.

I just got my Pioneer Premier DEH-P760MP in the mail and I'm going to install it. The installation instructions has both front mount and rear mount. Front mount calls for the holder to be placed into the dashboard, bending the clips 90 degrees to secure it into the dash. Rear mount calls for the head unit to be screwed onto the factory radio mounting brackets.

I've removed my factory radio, and it was placed into the dash using the mounting brackets, so I assume that it was rear mounted. I attempted to front mount my receiver by placing the holder into the dash, but it is all open spaces -- no place to bend the tabs to secure it into place. This means that I have to rear mount it then, correct? The holder is basically sitting "loose" in the dash.

    I'd appreciate the help.. thanks!

The holes in the reciever should match the holes in the mounting bracket used by the factory unit (or there will be some that will work) also make sure they dont exceed the maximum length specified, And then just mount your bracket back in place.

You did not specify make and year some are different.

Do you have the wiring adaptor plugs already ??

You should go with the "rear" mount... as CraigW said, you should be using the stock brackets!

I'm so glad I installed the head unit myself instead of paying bestbuy / circuit city $50 to do it. I can't believe they charge so much. The best part for me was soldering the wires to the wiring harness... I've never really soldered before, but I became a pro doing it. Plus my speakers sound ten times better than they did with my factory unit . :)

Wiring / getting into stuff doesn't really phase me... I started learning DOS when I was 9 and started programming Java / C when I was 12, and I was building PCs and setting up Cisco routers by 15, so I'm okay with messing with things, which I think has helped me with this new habit of mine...
