DIY: How to Install a Downstream Bosch Universal Oxygen sensor

    Materials Needed:

Bosch oxygen sensor model # 15733 (for 98-08 Corolla)
    22MM wrench
    Jackstands
    Wire cutter
    Wire crimper
    Wire stripper

    Steps:

    1) Jack up car with jackstand. Look undercar for the oxygen sensor after the cat converter. This is what it should look like:

    2) Use your 22MM wrench to remove the old sensor. Mine has over 200,000 miles on it so it was hard to get it off. Use WD40 or similar if you have to.

    3) Get inside the passenger side of the car. Pull back carpet on the console like below. You will see the grommet and the harness for the oxygen sensor.

    4) Cut the harness about 4 inches after the oxygen sensor plug. Strip the 4 wires from your harness so you can crimp them to the new sensor. Your old oxygen sensor should fall out now. This is the old OEM sensor with the new Bosch Universal oxygen sensor box.

    5) Pry out the grommet for the oxygen sensor. If your grommet is bad, you might want to pick up a new one at the dealership.

    6) Go back under car and screw in your new oxygen sensor. Feed your wire up through the hole where the grommet was.

    7) You can drop your car off the jackstands now. The work needed under the car is done. All that is left is to wire up the new universal sensor.

    8) From inside the car, pull the wire from the new sensor up through the grommet. Cut the new sensor wires if they are too long. Long is better than short so you can tuck the new wire adapters inside the console.

    9) Wire up your wires with the following:
    OEM / Bosch Sensor
    Blue / Black
    Black / White
    Black / White
    White / Grey

    10) Tuck up your carpet inside the console making sure to hide the wires and you are done!
