    Distributor problems

Well, yesterday my car broke down on me. The engine died as I was coasting up to my house and I couldn't get it started again. My mechanic has it now and says that there is a part in the distibutor that is most likely causing the problems and the only way to remedy it is to replace the entire distributor. Toyota wants more than $400 for a new one and my mechanic can get a reman. for about $300.

Is there anywhere that I can get a good distributor, cheaper ASAP?

    Thanks for any help.

unless the entire distributor is shot don't replace it. You can buy individual parts for the thing even though they want you to buy the whole thing. I had to get a new position sensor for a camry and it was about $65 to fix instead of $400

excellent. I think that was the problem with my distributor.

did you get the part from Toyota or from another parts source?

I got it from toyota cause nobody else made the part at the time.. still don't know if anybody else does.. I just remember having to go to like 5 different dealerships in the area to find the part.. seeing as "most people" would just buy a new distributor.
