    Dealer DRL disable

Has anyone had the dealer disable the DRLs in a '03 Corolla?

Ahhhh they wont disable them? Well why not? I gues all they would do is either have a diffrent relay box that they replace the stock one with, or they just do some wire snipping.

Im not too worried though, iv already disabled mine, i dont think anyone else has done it the way i did either...

If anyones interested in how i did mine check here: http://tro1086.netfirms.com/ddrl.htm

good job with the dissable. I caution anyone wanting to do it this way just because toyota will have a very seriouse problem with your electrical warranty if they see this hack job.

Also if you are dissabling your DRL's so your aftermarket bulbs dont burn out, you will need a relay harness. Otherwise the relay you just disconnected power from to take the DRL's down will fry right out. As soon as Toyota goes under there to find the problem they will see your hack job on the main power wire and that will be that! $500 for the new relay plus whatever labour they decide to charge for fixing it.

I had my local car shop disable the day time running lights for me. I love it without the DRL which were very useless.

did they do the thing where they clip one of the wires going to the DRL relay then ground the end coming off the relay unit? Or do you know how they did it?

In Canada its illegal to dissable them because it is law for any car 90 and newer to have it. But since its not law yet in the US you can get the dealer to do it if you ask them. they dont have to do it though.

And get charged 200$ for labour n parts?

Is it really worth it? lol

Chances of them doing it is less than 1%... but anyhow, try it.

Or get a Toyota mechanic to do it on the side for less. What about the wiring harness that connects to the main DRL relay box? In the 2000 model year Toyota put a TSB out on how to do it. All you had to do was pull one wire/pin out of the harness plug and tape it off. Although I do not believe the connector is the same. Has anyone tried a similar idea method on the '03?

    ATTN: Methane

Methane...I just found that someone else (herbrock17) was talking about the same TSB that I metioned in my previous post. I saw that you talked to him about it briefly. Did you ever try that method? I don't believe there are 23pins, but I'm just gonna look for the color wire as described and disconnect it.

I tried that one a year ago. I pulled on one of the wires to do it and the drl's shut off, but I realized I had blown the fuse not fixed the problem. After I replaced the fuse uitwas back to normal. I gave uo ciz I was scared after that. Plus the pin is not there, and none of the colors are the same.

That TSB does not work at all for the 2003s... I tried looking and testing all of the wires that matched the description on the TSB, to no avail.

Ya I think they clipped one of the wires going to the DRL relay. Is that a safe way to disable the DRL?
