Its all in the design of the exhaust system. Reputable after market companies have put in a lot of research and development for most of their product to attain a significant amount of HP but some are restricted due to emissions etc. So the best thing to do is copy the I.D. of an exhaust pipe (some are tapered some are straight) of a good after market exhaust and make a custom one with a high flow muffler like magnaflow and if you don't care for the environmet, don't put a cat in.

    Definitely Custom

just like above most aftermarket have to keep their products within the rules and regulations of the states they are selling in. There are issues with emissions and being CARB legal for many of us.

My exhaust was part of a group buy from JP performance and versus other exhaust mods I've seen and heard during our car meets, JP sounds the cleanest and performs. The majority of the buyers (over 100 so far) are happy with their results.

Custom is the way to go for performance because you can specify what you want out of your car. And if the build is knowledgeable enough, they can build the exhaust for your performance needs, e.g. hp and tq at the rpm ranges you desire. Now those are the guys who know how to build.
