    Cross-Drilled/Slotted Rotor

Can a cross-drilled/slotted rotor be shaved to prep for new brake pads? I thought that I heard shops will not do it. Anybody with an experience like this please let me know. thanks

You can not shave cross-drilled/slotted rotors, but you can just replace the pads as long as the rotors look good, no grooves in them or warped or pitted,

you 'can' resurface crossdrilled slotted rotors but it's very hard to do it so most shops won't bother. btw, you don't want drilled+slotted rotors. they're overrated in performance and are worse than plain rotors.

ditto, invest your money in a good set of brake pads and perfomance tires.

Cross drilled/slotted rotors are only made for 2 reasons. For looks and to prevent "gassing". If you aren't racing your car and really punishing the brakes you aren't going to have any "gassing" issues with blank rotors.

As a matter of fact you may lose some braking power going to a cross drilled and slotted rotor. Your are going to lose some pad to rotor surface area. Less contact/friction means less braking. You can make up for this by also going to a better brake pad than the stock pads.

As far as having the rotors resurfaced that depends. I don't think you will find anyone that is going to do that for drilled rotors. They are inherently more prone to cracking as it is. You can resurface slotted rotors but it may take awhile to find a shop to do it, from what I have heard it takes even longer than doing a blank rotor.

honestly, the cross drilled/slotted rotors won't do much, and comparing a corolla to a porsche is like day and night. If you really want to upgrade your brakes that much, you should try looking towards other venues; like looking towards a big brake kit, with larger rotors and brake calipers. I had the power slot rotors on my 03 corolla, it made no difference what so ever in stopping power, then I added the hawk hp pads which made a difference in the pedal travel, then I added dunlop w10's and that's what really made the difference.

yes and those rotors are 1 time use there. like bmw, they don't have any brake laives in their service areas cause they come out of the factory at mininum refinish thickness. new rotors every brake job.
