    couple of technical questions

I have some technical questions so I can try and figure this stuff out.
1.) What exactly does the transmission valve cable control.
2.) I was going to take the timing chain cover off to inspect the timing chain and other parts along with it..... is there a gasget that I have to put on with the front timing chain cover and where do I put the sealant.

I doubt I will get any responses but I thought I'd try anyway.

Never heard of a transmission valve cable - do you mean Throttle Valve cable (TV cable - on automatic transmission) or Select control cable (manual transmission)?

For the TV cable - this controls line pressures, shift points, part throttle downshifts and detent downshifts for the transmission. The Selectr control cable is connected to the shift and select lever on the side of the transmission and controls the shift forks inside.

As for the timing chain cover - it is a lot of work to get to it. The sealant they use is plain RTV. As for placement - it is actually pretty complex (large piece, don't to miss any spots, don't clog any passageways). I'd get a Toyota service manual or at least a Haynes manual before I take a crack at it. Don't really need to be in there unless the timing chain is worn, stretched out (unlikely) or the timing chain tensioners have gone bad (noisy engine, poor performance).
